There’s a certain quality to the muzzein’s call.. its deep melancholic ring has always thrilled me..The mysticism in which it is wrapped merges with the broken silences of the morning..In the daytime, it’s reassuring….Comforting that, somewhere, with the call, several human beings are gathering to say their prayers…A very learned person once said that when people get together for prayers or, they usher in peace and harmony … Imagine, a room full of people, with only good thoughts , he said
In the last couple of months though, with communal violence going off in several parts of the country, an odd unease would seep in, every time I’d hear the muzzein’s call….Today, Hasnath Mansur spoke to us. A quiet, intelligent dignified woman who has been working for years with educating poor, marginalized girls …Listening to her was a reminder of good souls engaged in prayers… At dusk, I heard the muzzein’s call again, and today the uneasiness was absent.. I relished the pristine melancholy once again, after several days.
